Youth Fitness

Starting from the age of 6 to the age of 17 it is very beneficial and highly recommended for adolescents to be involved in some sort of exercise or strength training program. When exercising correctly and consistently there are many benefits to a child’s physical and mental health. For example:

  • Higher levels of fitness
  • Lower body fat (also the ability to accumulate less body fat overall when started early)
  • Stronger bones
  • Stronger muscles
  • Brain health benefits
  • Improved cognition
  • Better academic performance
  • Increased memory
  • Reduced symptoms of depression
  • Self-esteem / confidence
  • Improved coordination

With all the benefits of exercise, teaching youth to exercise and take care of their bodies at a young age will help promote lifelong health and well-being.

Benefits of strength training for young athletes

Building a solid foundation for their future
Building a solid foundation is key for the younger athlete. It’s important for them to learn and adapt proper movement basics to build a solid foundation that the athlete can build upon and improve for their lifetime.

Reduce the risk of injury
By increasing core strength, stability, coordination, and tendon strength, applying proper form can keep an athlete from unwanted injuries and will teach them proper training for life.

Improve athletic performance
Strength and conditioning can improve motor unit recruitment, agility, coordination, speed, and strength all things that greatly benefit an athlete and their performance. Also, strength training improves the athlete’s confidence and self-esteem. The more aware an athlete becomes of their progress, potential and ability greatly increases their confidence which in turn benefits their performance during training and in competition.
